Frequently Asked Questions

What can go in a skip?

Skips are suitable for most non-hazardous waste, including:

– General household items (furniture, toys, non-electrical goods)
– Garden waste (soil, grass, hedge cuttings, branches)
– Inert waste (bricks, rubble, concrete, tiles)
– Wood, metal, plastics, cardboard, and packaging
– Non-electrical fixtures and fittings (doors, windows without glass, kitchen units)

Where can a skip be placed?

Skips can be placed on private land such as driveways, building sites, or gardens. If you need a skip on a public road or pavement, a permit will be required. We can arrange permits on your behalf where applicable.

Do you accept liability for damage?

No, while we take care when delivering and collecting skips, we cannot accept liability for damage to driveways, surfaces, or underground services. Customers are responsible for ensuring suitable access and placement.

Do I need a permit?

If a skip is placed on public land (such as a road or pavement), a council permit will be required. We can arrange this for you and will advise on any additional requirements, such as lights or covers.

What cannot go in a skip?

Skips cannot be used for hazardous or specialist waste, including:

– Asbestos
– Chemicals, solvents, paints, and oils
– Gas cylinders or pressurised containers
– Medical or biological waste
– Tyres (collection can be arranged separately)
– TVs, monitors, fridges, freezers, and other WEEE items (accepted by prior arrangement)
– Upholstered seating (WUDS/POPs – accepted by prior arrangement)
– Food waste, nappies, or animal/human excrement

If you need disposal for specialist or hazardous items, we can arrange a compliant uplift.

What skip sizes do you offer?

We provide a full range of skips from 2-yard mini skips through to 40-yard roll-on roll-off containers. See our Skip Size Guide for detailed dimensions and uses.

What if my skip is ready for collection early or I need another one?

If your skip is full earlier than expected, or you need an exchange, simply contact us. We’ll arrange prompt collection or replacement. Skips are not automatically collected at the end of the hire period – collection must be requested.

When are skips or waste removal services needed?

Skips or waste removal services are often required during construction and refurbishment works, including home extensions, garage conversions, and property development projects. They are also essential for clearing out houses, sheds, garages, offices, and warehouses. In addition, skips and waste removal play an important role at events such as public gatherings, community and charity events, concerts, and festivals where large volumes of waste are generated.

What happens to my waste?
All waste collected is transferred to licensed facilities. We prioritise recycling and resource recovery, ensuring as little waste as possible goes to landfill. Materials such as soil, wood, metal, cardboard, WEEE, and even upholstered seating are processed responsibly.
What access is required for delivery?

A minimum width of 3 metres is usually required for our vehicles. Access must be free of low branches, wires, or obstructions. If access is restricted, please let us know in advance so we can advise.

I’m not sure what size or service I need – what should I do?

No problem – our experienced team can advise on the most suitable skip size or waste service for your needs. We’ll take into account the type and volume of waste, as well as access considerations.
